Here it is! Day 2 of jewelry road trip with Gem Gossip. This time I’ll share with you photos from two more jewelry designers we visited - COMMUNION by Joy and Ariel Gordan. All captured with my Sony a7rii.

The first place we went was Communion by Joy’s beautiful studio. Joy gives so much inspiration when it comes to decorating her space and displaying her jewelry. Her studio is comprised of beautiful reclaimed wood, a velvet couch, vintage rugs, and a touch glam. (gold accents everywhere!)

After finding out Joy’s creative process for designing her one of a kind pieces and how her space hosts events like guided meditations, I knew I wanted to capture the atmosphere of the space in a calm way - but with an interesting edge. When it comes to the jewelry, I was drawn to the black diamonds and bohemian feel. In these shots it was important that some of them allude to a positive energy that her and her jewelry radiate. Using one of Joy’s healing crystals as a prop and my Sony 24-70mm f/2.8 wide angle lens for that interesting edge, I aimed for the viewer to feel as captivated by the photographs as they are when they walk into her studio and see her designs.

Our final stop was Ariel Gordan’s studio! Located in downtown LA, the space was a photographer’s dream with window after window flooding her space with natural light.

Having worked with Gem Gossip for almost 2 years now, I know how important it is to get very tight macro details of the jewelry that stops the viewer dead in their tracks. We still get further away portrait shots, but we love for the jewelry to be the focal point of the photograph; and invite the viewer to stay and stare awhile.
